The Kenny
Gallery, Galway
Situated in Galway, in the West of Ireland, The Kenny
Gallery specialise in Contemporary Irish Art, exhibits
the work of 19th and 20th century artists, and
frequently hosts exhibitions by visiting artists from
Europe and the United States.
The gallery organises some eighteen solo and group
exhibitions each year, including retrospectives, and
they
actively promote emerging talent. Over the years they have
showcased the work of emerging Irish artists, many of
whom have become household names. The works of Jack
Yeats, Paul Henry, Sean Keating, George Campbell, Louis
le Brocquy, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dalí, Sidney Nolan and
many others have gone through the doors of Kennys. In
addition, they have an ongoing everchanging group show of
several hundred works - oils, watercolours, sculpture,
stained glass, ceramics, photography and graphics.
Of particular interest to Irishgathering members
might be their extensive collection of almost three
thousand Antiquarian Maps & Prints of Ireland. The
prints are all originals and the vast majority are dated
between 1770 and 1890, with every effort having been
made to determine the exact date of publication. The
majority of the prints are in excellent condition,
especially in consideration of their age, and are double
mounted/matted ready for framing with a biographical
note on the original artist and a description of the
engraving technique used. Prints are professionally
cleaned and many are hand-coloured by a full-time artist.
The prints depict contemporary scenes of Ireland, with a
wide variety of picturesque landscapes.
